Sustainability of Copenhagen Fashion Week
Events
First unveiled back in 2020, Copenhagen Fashion Week’s sustainability action plan means all brands on its schedule have to meet its 18 minimum requirements, which cover six key areas: strategic direction, design, smart material choices, working conditions, consumer engagement and show production. This season – autumn/winter 2023 – marks the first time that the requirements have been fully implemented, following a series of pilot tests over the past two years.
Business Value
Copenhagen Fashion Week has risen with its environmentally friendly business model, forming its own commercial characteristics. With the maturation of this business model, it has gradually gained the ability to influence future fashion trends alongside the four major fashion weeks, which are recognized as global trendsetters.
Eco-friendly Brand Promotion
Events
1.The proposal to restrict PFAS prepared by authorities in Denmark, Germany, Finland, Norway, and Sweden will be submitted to the European Chemicals Agency on January 13, 2023. The proposal aims to reduce the release of PFAS into the environment and make products and processes safer. If the EU's restriction measures are officially enacted, it will have a significant impact on China's fluorochemical industry and affect products using traditional waterproof and stain-resistant finishing processes, such as sportswear products.
2.US outdoor equipment company REI announced in 2021 that it will ban the use of products containing PFA in the fashion retail industry and gradually eliminate products that have already been produced that contain PFA, to ensure that its products meet the standard of being completely free of PFA. It has pledged to stop selling all products containing PFA by fall 2024.
Business Value
1.Government agencies will begin to introduce laws and regulations at an exponential rate to help achieve climate goals. Businesses need to pay attention to adopting the best environmental practices so that both their brand and their products can withstand future tests.
2.Companies need to take action ahead of customer supply chain upgrades and national legislation to focus on environmental sustainability, including technological innovations, regulations, and upgrading target business standards, starting from now.
Upgrade the Color Strategy by Sustainable Dyeing
Events
1.The UK brand Pangaia is using Recycrom dyeing technology in its Re-Color Capsule collection. This innovative technology grinds waste fabrics into powder and transforms recycled fabric scraps into unique colors - each color has a new dyeing formula - to effectively reduce the consumption of water resources in the dyeing process. Pangaia also partnered with Japanese company Toyoshima & Co to develop a new natural dye series that uses materials extracted from waste from food companies and farms, such as blueberries, matcha, and monk fruit. These extracted pigments are used in the yarn dyeing process, minimizing waste generation and reducing the need for water resources and harmful chemicals.
2.The ECOFAST pure sustainable textile treatment solution launched by the Ralph Lauren brand in collaboration with a chemical giant aims to address the water shortage and pollution caused by cotton dyeing. This technology can save 40% of water consumption and 85% of chemical usage, greatly reducing the environmental impact and ultimately reducing carbon footprint by 60%.
Business Value
Advocate for a value and efficiency-oriented approach to evaluate the contribution of environmentally sustainable dyeing technologies in the supply chain to the link between products and consumers. Focus on the construction of supply chain bases and collaboration with environmentally innovative companies.
Fashion Brands Explore Wearable Electronic Textiles
Events
1.LOEWE showcased a range of garments made from flexible electronic textiles in its Fall/Winter 2022 runway show, expressing the designer's satire on the marketing hype around the "metaverse" with a surreal approach. It also provides a way to apply virtual technology to link with real-life experiences.
2.In celebration of Moncler's 70th anniversary, Francesco Ragazzi, the designer for Palm Angels, was invited to redesign the iconic Moncler Maya 70 jacket. To push the brand into the future, the down jacket uses fiber optic and battery-powered technology. This jacket quickly gained popularity on platforms such as Instagram, Tiktok, and Xiaohongshu.
Business Value
After nearly a decade of development, smart textiles are gradually moving from conceptualization to commercial use, offering a new way for brands to differentiate their products and compete in the marketplace.
